"Find the bird. In the loop. On the other side of the old man's grave. September third, 1940" (Riggs 37), were Abe's last words towards Jacob. Everyone thought that Abe was always crazy because he "imagined" things. After Abe's death, Jacob had strange dreams involving "monsters". Since Abe died from seeing "monsters", Jacob's parents were worried and sent Jacob to a psychiatrist. He started to research The Cairnholm Island because his grandfather had mentioned it. Jacob got very ambitious and did everything he could to convince his parents on letting him go there.
Luckily for Jacob, his mother wanted a vacation. Since his dad found out that half of the world's bird population that he enjoys lives there, he decided to go with Jacob. Dr. Golden, his psychiatrist told his parents, " It could be important for him" (Riggs 66). All of the ambitious lead Jacob to the island to find a remnant from his grandfather. He searched and searched the old house hoping that he would find someone or something. Jacob went into a bog and found Miss Peregrine and the peculiar children. All of the ambitious had paid off. Everyone in the loop thought that Abe was still alive but Jacob had to tell a different version of his death. "To keep from crying, I gave her only the broad strokes" (Riggs 151).

"Curiosity killed the cat"

"My dad and I would go three weeks in June" (Riggs 67). When Jacob came to the island, he was curious about the whole town and started to explore it. "This was the piss hole" (Riggs 75). When Jacob first saw the town, it was nothing like grandpa Abe had described. The island only had one phone line and a motel, which was the most mediocre. "Wait, Stop!" (Riggs 121). Jacob was in the basement and when he looked up, he found many children. Jacob had seen them all in pictures. Emma, the one he followed, because of his curiosity, led him into a loop. "I wanted to read them all" ( Riggs 226). In the loop, the house was in good conditions, with kids living there. In Emma's room, his curiosity led him to look through all of her letters to Abe.

Cleverness changes the mind
" Then I realized, in a minor stroke of genius, that by dialing up a menu screen on the cellphone I kept in my pocket, I could make a weak flashlight" (Riggs 112). Jacob is very clever because in the worst situations, he comes up with a solution. He has showed cleverness through his skills. Anyone in his shoes would have been scared because he was alone. When he saw Emma with the little light, I think he almost fainted. "I hurdled fallen low branches, chasing her until my lungs burned"(Riggs 123). When Emma tried to escape, Jacob came up with a plan. He was very clever because he seemed to surround her.
